Statement:

"A picture speaks a 1000 words." If a single frame speaks a 1000 words imagine how many words there are in a 90 minute movie running on 30 frames a second.

My whole life I have been interested in movies, books and video games, not for the action or the game play but for the story. Growing up I would be perfectly content with watching several movies a day. The stories always interested me. I was an active viewer getting fully immersed in the characters and their world. Never could I imagine that I would grow up to help make these stories come to life in video.

My view of the movies is that the number one reason that a movie (book, or video game) is made is to tell a story. I don't consider myself an artist, I prefer to think of myself as a storyteller. Through video I hope to tell stories to my audiences.

Why We Watch

Why We Watch from Alex Stout on Vimeo.

This video is my senior thesis project. It started as a look at why their so much violence in today's media. However, the more research I did into the topic my project evolved into a look at the "evolution" of violent entertainment into what we have in today's media. The process is simple really, I wrote a long research paper on the topic. Then I took bits a pieces of the paper and created the script for the movie. After that I simple added video to create the documentary. This video was shown as part of my senior presentation in Clarkson University's Senior Digital Arts & Sciences Exhibition

As part of my Digital Video II class we work on a semester long group project creating a semi feature movie from scratch. Naturally we decided to create a zombie movie because zombies are awesome. I work on several jobs on the film such as camera, make-up, security, and I was a extra in the film. My primary job however was to edit the film.

After completing the design I had the model made using stereolithography, here is a shot of the actual Pendent I designed and created.

I textured the Pendent in Maya. My goal was to give the Pendent a slightly metal look, the bump map needs to be adjusted though. The colors are based off my actual family crest.
